About the Role
The Unix Application Support role is intellectually challenging and demanding, working in a small, highly-skilled team, responsible for technical support of the production and test trading platforms, including automation, deployment, monitoring, reporting, troubleshooting and recovery, with close collaboration with the in-house IT Operations, Market Control, QA, and Development teams.
This team covers several shift patterns, starting as early as 06:30 CET, finishing as late as 00:00 CET, within the context of a normal 40-hour working week.
The purpose of this role is to support Equiduct’s expansion into the US Market and is primarily to support US Trading. As a result, applicants must be available to work a late shift pattern (working hours 16:00 to midnight CET).
On occasion, out-of-hours work may also be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring the Equiduct trading platform, troubleshooting, recovery, and root cause analysis
- Ensuring all incidents and problems are accurately recorded and followed-up to resolution
- Automating reports, using Bash, Perl, and Python
- Application deployment and automation
- Planning, testing, and tracking production changes through formal change control procedures
- Troubleshooting specific to FIX, ITCH financial protocols
- Unix performance analysis
Skills & Qualifications

Required Skills
- Shell scripting (preferably Bash), Python and/or Perl
- Regular expressions
- Comfortable working at the command line on Unix servers
- Strong ‘core’ Unix knowledge and monitoring command tools
- Good communication skills – to work closely with both technical and non-technical teams
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Self-starting and keen to learn
- Attention to detail
- Passion for learning and continuous development/improvement
Desirable
- Network fundamentals – TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast (experience in network administration is a plus)
- Basic SQL experience
- Experience managing low-latency systems
- Knowledge of financial protocols for order entry and market data
- Experience with Opsview or Nagios or similar monitoring applications
- Experience with web technologies is a plus
