Equiduct, the pan-European retail exchange, announced today that it has launched the Nordic markets on Apex, Equiduct’s commission-free, Best Execution service for retail orders. More than five million retail investors connected to Apex through their retail brokers now have access to 208 Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish stocks.

This region has some of the most active retail trading participation in the world per capita. The area has seen a boom in retail participation since 2018, and this intensified during the Covid-19 pandemic. Trading from retail investors accounted for 11% of exchange trade flow in 2021. More recently, in July 2022, Sweden saw the retail segment driving 12% of total turnover¹.

The Apex service for the Nordic region is supported by a pool of liquidity providers who are committed to deliver additional retail-specific liquidity in the Equiduct order book. It also includes a unique Best Execution check which can be used by retail brokers who wish to avoid any trade at a price outside the primary market BBO.

Equiduct also inaugurates a new regional commercial hub centred around the opening of a Swedish branch office and the hire of Axel Josephson, a new country head based in Sweden. Josephson, who will be covering all Nordic markets from Stockholm, joins Equiduct from Infront ASA, where he worked as Sales Director for almost eight years.

for over five million end retail investors in Europe
New listings include popular cryptocurrency and megatrends names

Equiduct, the pan-European retail exchange, announced today that it has expanded its range of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) trading in Apex to include a further 314 unique ISINs. Over five million retail investors have access to Apex, the on-exchange Best Execution service from Equiduct with zero trading fees for retail flow, and will now be able to benefit from trading these popular ETPs and ETFs.

ETPs and ETFs have continued to attract assets globally, with YTD net inflows of $559.75 Bn, second only to the record set by 2021 net inflows of $833.88 Bn¹. After the initial launch of 321 equity ETFs and ETPs in September 2021, Equiduct is now expanding the range of asset classes, exposure, and geographies retail investors can access through Apex. Commodity, fixed income, and currency ETPs will now be available for trading – including in-demand crypto ETPs.

New geographies will also be accessible, with ETPs covering US, Asia and emerging markets, as well as global ETPs. This is another expansion milestone for Equiduct who have historically focused on the European securities, until the recent launch of US stocks in September 2022.

Short and leveraged (S&L) ETPs are also being introduced – these products provide investors with access to positive or inverse leverage factors for single stocks and basket ETPs. Lastly, this expansion also brings access to key megatrends and thematic ETPs such as ESG, cybersecurity, cloud computing, blockchain and artificial intelligence.

This move is an important development in the ongoing effort to provide access to ETFs and ETPs for European retail investors, who still face challenges in the way these products are usually traded – via request for quote (RFQ) or over-the-counter (OTC) by institutional investors. This expansion includes 314 unique ISINs, spread across 20 issuers including 21Shares, ETC Group, Global X, Leverage Shares and WisdomTree.

Equiduct, the pan-European retail exchange, announced today that it has launched the trading of US equities in Apex, the on-exchange Best Execution service with zero trading fees for retail brokers. Over five million retail investors with access to Apex will now be able to invest in 21 highly traded US stocks – including Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Tesla – all priced in Euros. Equiduct’s focus is to help brokers overcome the challenges faced in providing access to US stocks.

Today, the exchange brings commission-free best execution on a European regulated market for key US stocks utilising Europe’s post trade infrastructure to provide plug and play access to European retail brokers. This is the first of several expansions planned for the Apex service before the end of the year, which is great news for European investors who continue to search for more efficient ways to invest in international stocks while reducing costs and risks.

Further expansion is planned in 2023, including broadening the universe of stocks available and adding the ability to trade in USD. This is a significant development in Equiduct’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable access to top traded stocks to even more retail investors.

The launch is supported by two liquidity providers: Optiver and Virtu Financial.

Equiduct, the pan-European retail exchange, announced today the appointment of Stephen Jarvis as Chief Financial Officer. Stephen joins the company at a crucial moment in their growth trajectory and brings with him a wealth of experience.

Stephen Jarvis is a growth-oriented CFO and has guided companies through key stages in their lifecycle: capital raise, growth, sale and integration. His 10-year tenure at Carbon Clear, and then EcoAct, culminated in the integration of EcoAct into a Paris listed technology company, Atos. Prior to that, Stephen enjoyed a 13-year career in the City as an analyst and fund manager at Lansdowne Partners, UBS Global Asset Management and Morgan Stanley.

Apex, the commission-free retail Best Execution service, continues to deliver growth in volume and market share since launch in 2019

Equiduct, the pan-European retail exchange, today released trading statistics for the full year of 2021. The figures show record turnover of over €77bn, due continued client demand to access Apex, the commission-free Best Execution service for retail brokers, which launched at the end of 2019.

Equiduct recorded an average daily traded value (ADV) of €300M for the full year 2021, up 7% year-on-year despite a 4% decline in European trading levels for the same period. Apex continues to drive growth, with turnover up 14% vs 2020, and up 100% since launching the service. The exchange had a strong finish to 2021, with further new members coming onboard and the strategic launch of ETF trading. This led to an all-time quarterly record turnover in Q4 of €22.5bn and Apex alone grew 40% vs Q3.

Equiduct’s share of pan-European trading grew by 11.3%, driven by the increase in retail activity, with Apex achieving a 19% market share increase year-on-year. At a regional level, Apex set new annual market share records across almost all markets with Spain, Italy and Germany increasing between 43% and 64% vs 2020, each achieving new quarterly records in Q4, up over 300% since launch.
